Introduction

The Department of Colorectal Surgery provides specialized treatment for malignant and benign diseases that occur in the large intestine (colon, rectum) and anus. Malignant diseases include colorectal cancer and anal cancer, and benign diseases include inflammatory bowel disease, diverticulitis, and colon diseases such as rectal prolapse, and anal diseases such as hemorrhoids, fistulas, and dentition. Colorectal cancer is a cancer that occurs in the colon and rectum, and is a high-risk cancer that ranks fourth in cancer incidence and third in mortality in Korea (National Cancer Information Center, 2019).
